Baur attended the University of Chicago as both undergraduate and graduate from 1935 to 1942, taking courses from Herbert Blumer, Ernest W. Burgess, Everett C. Hughes, Alfred R. Radcliffe-Brown, W. Lloyd Warner, Louis Wirth, and other social scientists. Materials from these courses comprise the bulk of the collection.
